Jueves by La Oreja de Van Gogh: Saddest Spanish Song EVER!

Ok, to begin with I’m gonna say that this is my personal overview, about preference it’s mine and maybe not as the same as other people. But basically, this song is really deep and touching and I spent like hours crying like a baby over this song. What makes it special is the true story behind this song. First, it is a memorial song for Madrid bombing March 11, 2004. Second, there’s a love story inside the tragedy that really tearing me inside. So for this post, I’m not only taking about the lyrics whatsoever but also about the bombing tragedy.

Madrid Bombing
Thursday, March 11, 2004 was the day Spaniards will never forget. It was a horrible morning when 10 out of 13 bombs exploded in four trains in Madrid. All the bombs were set to explode at 07:30-08:00 am local time. In this tragedy, 192 people died and almost 2000 people injured. These pictures below will explain a bit more about the bombing.

Later it found out that the master behind this bombing was done by a terrorist group, Al Qaeda. Some also said that there’s possibility of ETA also included in this tragedy. 2004 was also the year when the prince, that now the king of spain, Felipe and his fiancé Letizia got married and was also the year of general election in Spain. Story of the song
Among the victims, there’s this one lady who actually in love with a guy that both always go by train daily. She kept her feeling and got no courage yet to talk him or even ask whom he was. When she finally decided to talk to him, it turned out that both were falling in love. But unfortunately it was also the day when the attack happened. It was also described as the girl “gives the last breath of her heart” to the boy as it’s described in the last sentence of the song. (Source: Wiki)

For me personally, the lyric is very deep and describes very well the feelings of the lady. How, at the end, it seems like a happy ending as it’s said “finally I find your face, I become brave and I kiss you on your lips”. In the other hand, it is such heartbreaking as it was literally the end of her life.

Video
The video might be very simple, but it represents the situation perfectly. The colour black and white was the illustration of sorrow. The light effect was set just as they are inside of a moving train. And the last, the people, that came from all races, all ages, represent all the passengers and also the victims that came from several nationalities and various ages.
